She Accepted Islam

BismiLLAH AlhamduliLLAH

She Accepted Islam

As a person of grassroots da‘wah, one of the greatest feelings in the world is when your da‘wah efforts yield results.

About two years ago, I spoke to an elderly grandma in my neighbourhood until she accepted Islam. I placed the Shahādah on her tongue. I also taught her how to observe Ṣalāh.

I tried so hard, but she never started observing Ṣalāh. So I kind of gave up.

Today, almost two years later, I visited her and subḥānAllāh—one of the first things she said to me in the Yorùbá language was, “I started praying. I started last week.”

This was absolutely unexpected, and verily, all praise belongs to ALLĀH.

Listen, guys—I wrote, with my own hand, pen on paper, the simplest instructions on how to observe Ṣalāh in the Yorùbá language for her. I tried so hard.
So, so hard.

I did a lot to ensure that she observed Ṣalāh, and nothing worked. To be honest, I had lost all hope, and I was no longer expecting her to actually observe Ṣalāh until the day she died.

Today, I was surprised beyond words. I wasn’t expecting it at all.

On my list of all that I’m expecting from ALLĀH, this wasn’t part of it at all.

I wrote this post as an exercise in proclaiming the favours of ALLĀH.

Sūrah ad-Ḍuḥā (93:11):

وَأَمَّا بِنِعْمَةِ رَبِّكَ فَحَدِّثْ
“And proclaim the favour of your Lord.”

Sincerely,

Your sister in Islam,
Hamidah
