Different Stars (The Twelve Months)
BismiLLAH AlhamduliLLAH
You see, when you're in a room full of great people working for ALLAH, Shayṭān will also start working hard.
So remember: you're all like the twelve months of the year.
One of you could be Muḥarram—the Month of ALLAH.
Another person could be Ramaḍān—the month of the Qur'an.
Another could be Dhul-Ḥijjah—the month of Hajj.
And on and on, with such perfect precision by ALLAH.
Each of us has our own unique role.
Each of us has our own unique strength.
We're all differently made.
There are billions and billions of stars.
So do not be intimidated by a star that shines differently.
Rather, focus on your unique shine.
Ask ALLAH to help you see where you shine.
You're all doing the work of light.
So, defeat the darkness of Shayṭān.
This reminds me of something Julia Galef once said:
“A lot of activists spend a lot of energy attacking other groups who agree with them 90% but they fight over the remaining 10%. Freud called this the narcissism of minor differences. That basically we feel the most compulsion to distinguish ourselves from people who are most similar to us.”
— Julia Galef, "Why you need the scout mindset to change the world"
Perhaps this is one of Shayṭān's most subtle strategies: distracting people of light by making them compete with one another instead of working together.
May Almighty ALLAH accept all of our work as an act of worship.
Sincerely,
Hamidah Sẹ̀gílọlá Abbas (HSA)
