Paying for Islamic Knowledge
BismiLLAH AlhamduliLLAH
I genuinely believe that the habit of Muslims refusing to pay for Islamic knowledge is inspired by Shayṭān.
Narrated by Ibn ‘Abbas, the Messenger of ALLAH ﷺ said:
"The payment that you receive the most deservedly is what you are given for Allah's Book."
— Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī
We would never ask medical doctors to work for free. We would also never ask them to work part-time as medical doctors whilst doing something else to earn a living. They care for our physical health, so we value them too much to ask that from them.
However, when it comes to Islamic researchers, we demand that they work for free. We even angrily insist that they should do something else to earn a living. We suggest that they should carry out Islamic research only part-time.
This anger is clearly from Shayṭān.
Likewise, this attitude of underestimating what it takes to conduct thorough Islamic research is from Shayṭān.
It is Shayṭān who convinces us that it is acceptable to value the work of medical doctors—who care for our bodies—while dismissing the work of Islamic researchers—who care for our souls.
May Almighty ALLAH help us to defeat Shayṭān.
May HE, The Most High, guide us to value those who care for our souls.
Āmīn.
As a full-time Islamic Researcher, I extend my special gratitude to you, dear honourable readers.
I used to work remotely with companies in the United States and the Netherlands. I left to do Islamic research full-time.
I do this work because I care.
I am not here because I have nothing to do. I am here because I want to.
So, if you've ever supported an Islamic researcher in any capacity, I am grateful.
May Almighty ALLAH support you with goodness in this life and the next.
Again, huge gratitude to everyone who has contributed, regardless of the amount or currency.
If you have $1, pay it. If you have less or more, pay.
Support this work one-time or monthly and gain access to all of my digital books.
May Almighty ALLAH (The Most Merciful) reward you with goodness in great abundance as you support an independent Islamic researcher.
Sincerely,
Hamidah Sẹ̀gílọlá Abbas (HSA)
