Why I call myself an Artist

Why I call Myselt an Artist BismiLLAH AlhamduliLLAH I am Hamidah Abbas , an Islamic thinker. I completed the Muslim Intellectual Development Program (Sharī'ah Intelligence Training) on 17 June 2026 . The five-day training was held at Bayseone Hall, opposite the NASFAT praying ground, Samonda, Ibadan, Oyo State. It was organised by the Da'wah Institute of Nigeria, Islamic Education Trust (IET), Minna, in collaboration with the Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN). As a thinker, I have many interests and areas of research. However, my core area of interest is gender and polygamy in Islam . A simple way to summarise everything I do is: Spreading light. Whether it is “music”, salvation, agriculture, gender and polygamy in Islam, or society, my objective has always been to make things a little brighter than they were before. For me, it has always been light over darkness . I am from Ìbàdàn, Oyo State, Nigeria . I hold a Bachelor of Agriculture degree from the Fed...

The completion of the 5-Days Shari'ah Intelligence Training by the Islamic Education Trust, Da'wah Institute of Nigeria, Minna

BismiLLAH AlhamduliLLAH

AlhamduliLLAH for the successful completion of the five-day training organised by the Da'wah Institute of Nigeria, Islamic Education Trust, Minna in collaboration with the Muslim Ummah of Southwest Nigeria (MUSWEN).

The Da'wah Institute of Nigeria is an organisation that has conducted many trainings in partnership with many Muslim organisations all over the world including Australia, England, US, Bahrain, Malaysia, Singapore, Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Kenya, Sudan, Maldives, etc. In the last 30 years, they've trained thousands of people. So may Almighty ALLAH preserve the institution.

As we complete the Shari'ah Intelligence course today (17-June-2026, Wednesday, 2-Muharram-1448), I cannot help but thank ALLAH for the huge number of resourceful and brilliant people that He has bestowed upon the Ummah of Muhammad ﷺ. One of the beautiful things about gatherings such as these is being reminded that the Ummah is rich with people of knowledge, wisdom, experience, and excellence. For that, all praise belongs to ALLAH.

Anyway, as we conclude the training, I would like to share a thought that I recently came across and came to love.

Ibn al-Qayyim al-Jawziyyah mentions a saying attributed to Socrates in Ighāthat al-Lahfān. The statement is:

"Do not compel your children to follow your customs, for they were created for a time different from your own."

In Arabic, it is commonly quoted as:

لا تُكرهوا أولادكم على آثاركم، فإنهم مخلوقون لزمان غير زمانكم

Meaning:

"Do not force your children to conform to your ways, because they have been created for a time other than your time."

Interestingly, many modern writers have mistakenly attributed this saying to Ali ibn Abi Talib (رضي الله عنه). However, it appears in connection with Socrates in Ibn al-Qayyim's Ighāthat al-Lahfān.

And ALLAH knows best.

AlhamduliLLAH for beneficial knowledge, beneficial gatherings, and the opportunity to continue learning.

Sincerely,

Hamidah Sẹ̀gílọlá Abbas (HSA)
